This is not a restaurant guide, but rather just a small, quite subjective selection of particularly popular restaurants in San José and the surrounding area.

Bacchus Restaurante

This top Italian restaurant is no longer one of the city's insider tips. It is now very well known in gourmet circles and so it is recommended to reserve in advance.
It is located in the oldest house in Costa Rica. The historic building "Casa Quitirrisí" is one of the last examples of a typical, vernacular building, declared an architectural patrimony in 1990.

Doris Metropolitan

If you like meat, this is the place for you. But only then - the steak is tender on the tongue - you rarely get something so delicious in this world.

Don Fernando

Don Fernando is actually a real restaurant/butcher shop chain. In the butcher shop you can buy the best meat and sausage, and you can also try it in the attached restaurant. Not suitable for vegetarians.

Tiquicia

Typical Costa Rican food in a very nice atmosphere with a fantastic view over the central valley. Particularly suitable for romantic evenings. Folklore shows on the weekend.
